Newport Visual Arts Center Presents "Place & Time": An Exploration of Yaquina Head Through the Art of Carol Shenk

Newport, Oregon: Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA) is proud to announce the opening of "Place & Time," featuring the work of local artist Carol Shenk. Hosted in the Upstairs Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC), the exhibition will run from March 8 through May 3, 2026.

"Place & Time" is the culmination of Shenk’s 2025 artist residency at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. Drawing from her background as an archivist and her deep interest in visual storytelling, Shenk offers a multi-layered response to one of the Oregon Coast’s most iconic landmarks. The body of work explores the intersection of the natural environment, the lighthouse's architectural design, the mathematical precision of its optics, and the complex human history of the site.
