Lines that Worked the Water: Rebecca Hooper's “Woven from the Port” Opens at Newport Visual Arts Center

Newport, Oregon: Oregon Coast Council for the Arts presents Woven from the Port, a solo exhibition by Siletz-based fiber artist Rebecca Hooper, on view in the Runyan Gallery from June 12 through August 30, 2026. The exhibition is free and open to the public

Hooper’s work is rooted in the docks of Newport’s commercial fishing fleet. The rope she weaves with is thick, salt-worn line that has hauled crab pots across thousands of Pacific miles. In Hooper’s hands, that same rope becomes imagery: intricate, large-scale tapestries depicting the marine ecosystems the fishing industry both depends on and shapes.
