Three Exhibits to Open September 4  at Newport Visual Arts Center

Newport, Oregon: Newport Visual Arts Center, located at 777 NW Beach Drive in Newport’s Nye Beach neighborhood, welcomes three new exhibitions on September 4, all free and open to the public through the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts (OCCA).

In the Upstairs Gallery, Year of the Fire Horse brings together five local artists — Cynthia Jacobi, Marcy Kenyon, Marilyn Burkhardt, Marion Moir, and Charlotte Van Zant-King — whose work leans into the mystic strength and adventurous spirit of horses. The exhibit, curated by Jacobi, spans wooden sculpture, watercolor, collage, lino block print, acrylic, wax, and ceramics. The show also explores the Chinese zodiac’s Year of the Fire Horse, a rare convergence of zodiac and lunar calendar that occurs only once every 60 years and carries both celebrated traits of strength and leadership and cautionary ones of impulsiveness…
